The Story of Miss Moppet

This is Miss Moppet jumping just too late; she misses the Mouse and hits her own head.これは、とびかかるのがちょっとおそすぎたモペットちゃんです。ネズミをとりにがして、自分の頭をぶつけてしまいました。

She thinks it is a very hard cupboard!なんてかたい戸だななんだろう、と思っています！

The Mouse watches Miss Moppet from the top of the cupboard.ネズミは、戸だなの上からモペットちゃんを見ています。

Miss Moppet ties up her head in a duster, and sits before the fire.モペットちゃんは、ふきんで頭をしばって、火の前にすわります。

The Mouse thinks she is looking very ill.ネズミは、モペットちゃんがとてもぐあいが悪そうだと思います。 He comes sliding down the bell-pull.ネズミは、よびりんのひもをつたって、するするとおりてきます。

Miss Moppet looks worse and worse.モペットちゃんは、ますますぐあいが悪そうです。 The Mouse comes a little nearer.ネズミは、もう少し近よってきます。

Miss Moppet holds her poor head in her paws, and looks at him through a hole in the duster.モペットちゃんは、いたい頭を前足でかかえて、ふきんのあなからネズミを見ています。 The Mouse comes very close.ネズミは、すぐそばまでやってきます。

And then all of a sudden—Miss Moppet jumps upon the Mouse!そのとき、とつぜん――モペットちゃんがネズミにとびかかりました！

He has wriggled out and run away; and he is dancing a jig on the top of the cupboard!ネズミはくねくねとぬけ出してにげ、戸だなの上でおどりをおどっているのです！
