アルプスに近いピエーヴェ・ディ・カドーレに生まれ、子どものころヴェネツィアに出て、ベッリーニやジョルジョーネのもとで学びました。あざやかで豊かな色づかいで、ヴェネツィアいちばんの画家になります。神聖ローマ皇帝カール5世やスペイン王フェリペ2世にも重んじられました。晩年は筆あとを大きく残す自由な描き方になり、ヴェネツィアで亡くなりました。
Titian was born in Pieve di Cadore, near the Alps. As a boy he moved to Venice and studied with Bellini and Giorgione. With his rich, glowing colors, he became the top painter in Venice. Emperor Charles V and King Philip II of Spain valued his work highly. In his last years, his brushwork became loose and free. He died in Venice.
