ドイツのミュンヘンに生まれました。動物こそ純粋な存在だと考え、馬や鹿、キツネなどを、現実とはちがう青や赤や黄色で描きます。色にはそれぞれ意味があると考えていました。1911年、カンディンスキーとともに「青騎士」をつくり、ドイツ表現主義の中心になります。第一次世界大戦に出征し、1916年にヴェルダンの戦いで36歳で亡くなりました。
Marc was born in Munich, Germany. He believed animals were pure beings. He painted horses, deer and foxes in unreal blues, reds and yellows. He thought each color had a meaning. In 1911, he and Kandinsky formed the Blue Rider, a key group of German Expressionism. He went to fight in World War I and was killed at the Battle of Verdun in 1916, aged 36.
