1One day, a man was looking at smart home products at an electronics store. A salesclerk explained that he could control everything in his home with his smartphone. The man thought it would make his life easier, so he decided to buy a set. 2That weekend, the man installed a smart lock on his front door. Then he relaxed on the sofa and changed the color of the lights with his phone, feeling very satisfied. 3A few weeks later, the man used his phone to turn on the air conditioner at home before he left the office so that his room would be cool when he got back. His coworker was impressed, and the man felt that his life had become much more convenient. 4One rainy night, however, the man arrived home and found that his phone battery was dead. He could not unlock the door, so he had to stand outside in the rain. He looked completely helpless.
No.1Please look at the fourth picture. If you were the man, what would you be thinking?
I'd be thinking, "I depended too much on my smartphone. I should have kept a normal key somewhere just in case."
I'd be thinking, "From now on, I'll always carry a portable charger. I'll also find out whether this lock can be opened in another way."
No.2〜No.4(カードを裏返して)
No.2Do you think smart home devices will become common in Japan?
Yes, I think so. As the prices of these devices fall, more people will be able to afford them. They are especially useful for busy workers who want to save time. For example, people can turn on the air conditioner before they get home or check whether they locked the door while they are out. Such convenience will make smart homes more popular.
No.3Do you think smart home devices put people's privacy at risk?
Yes, I think so, to some extent. Devices such as smart speakers and cameras collect a lot of information about people's daily lives. For example, if a hacker gets into a home camera system, they may be able to see what is happening inside the house. Companies should make their products more secure, and users should change their passwords regularly.
No.4Today, almost every part of daily life depends on the internet. Do you think society is too dependent on the internet?
Yes, I think so. Today, banks, hospitals and transportation systems all rely on the internet to operate. For example, when a large system failure occurs, people may not be able to pay for things or buy train tickets for hours. Society should prepare backup systems so that important services can continue even when the internet goes down.
