- 1Because of the typhoon, the school trip was called off.
答えb The school trip was canceled because of the typhoon.
The school trip was put off until after the typhoon(台風の後まで延期)は put off=postpone で、同じ off を使う句動詞のわな。was held despite the typhoon(台風にもかかわらず実施)は逆。was shortened(短縮された)は本文にない。
【覚える】call off=cancel(中止)、put off=postpone(延期)、carry out=実行する。 - 2Participation in the workshop is optional, but you must register in advance.
答えc You do not have to join the workshop, but if you want to, you need to sign up beforehand.
解説optional(任意の)= do not have to、in advance(事前に)= beforehand と言い換えた選択肢が正解。Everyone must join…register on the day(全員参加・当日登録)は両方逆。You can join without registering(登録なしで参加可)は must register と矛盾。Registration is optional, but everyone must attend(登録は任意・参加は必須)は optional と must の対象を入れかえたすり替え。
【覚える】optional⇔compulsory/mandatory、in advance=beforehand=ahead of time。 - 3The number of residents over 65 remained stable between 2015 and 2025.
答えd The number of older residents showed little change over the ten years.
解説remain stable(安定したままだ)= show little change(ほとんど変化しない)。rose sharply(急増した)、fell by half(半減した)は増減の語で逆の内容。
【覚える】横ばい:remain stable/level off/stay the same。 - 4Admission to the city pool is free of charge for residents.
答えc People living in the city can use the pool at no cost.
解説residents(住民)= people living in the city、free of charge(無料で)= at no cost。Everyone can use the pool for free(誰でも無料)は対象を住民以外にまで広げた言い過ぎ。 Residents must pay(有料)は逆。
【覚える】無料:free of charge/at no cost/for nothing/complimentary。 - 5More than three quarters of the members voted for the plan.
答えd Over 75 percent of the members supported the plan.
解説three quarters=3/4=75%、more than=over、voted for(賛成票を入れた)=supported。 Most members voted against(大半が反対)は for と against が逆。
【覚える】a quarter=25%、three quarters=75%、a third=約33%、one in ten=10%。 - 6Tickets for the final match sold out in less than an hour.
答えc All the tickets for the final match were gone within an hour.
解説sold out(売り切れた)= were gone、in less than an hour(1時間足らずで)= within an hour。It took more than an hour(1時間以上かかった)は時間が逆。The final match lasted less than an hour(試合が1時間未満だった)は話題を試合の長さにすり替えたもの。Some tickets were still left(まだ残っていた)は売り切れと矛盾。
【覚える】sell out=売り切れる、be gone=なくなる、within=〜以内に。 - 7The new bike-sharing service is affordable for most students.
答えa Most students can use the service without spending too much money.
解説affordable(手が届く値段の)= without spending too much money。The service is free for all students(全学生無料)は free と all の2点で言い過ぎ。Most students cannot afford(払えない)は逆。available only to students(学生限定)は本文にない条件。
【覚える】affordable=reasonable=not expensive。afford to do=〜する余裕がある。
Last month, our town opened a new public library next to the station. It has 300 seats, a café, and rooms that students can book for group study. I visited it on a Sunday, and almost every seat was taken. In my opinion, it is the best place in town to study, because it is so bright and quiet. The library also lends tablets to residents for free. Some of my classmates say the café makes the place too noisy, but I think the noise level is acceptable. I believe every town should have a library like this.

- 8Which is a fact, not an opinion, about the library?
答えa It has rooms that can be booked for group study.
It is the best place in town to study(町でいちばん勉強に良い場所)は best、The noise from the café is acceptable(カフェの音は許容範囲)は acceptable、Every town should have a library like it(どの町にもあるべき)は should と、評価・判断の語を含む意見。
意見のサイン:best/should/I think/acceptable。 - 9Which is an opinion stated in the blog?
答えb The library is an ideal place to study.
In my opinion, it is the best place in town to study を ideal(理想的な)と言い換えている。next to the station(駅の隣)、lends tablets for free(タブレットを無料で貸し出す)、Almost every seat was taken(ほぼ満席だった)は、誰が見ても確かめられる事実。
In my opinion/I believe - 10What do some of the writer's classmates think?
答えc The café makes the library too noisy.
Some of my classmates say the café makes the place too noisy The library should open a café(カフェを開くべき)はすでにある。has too few seats(席が少なすぎる)、Tablets should not be lent for free(タブレットを無料で貸すべきでない)は本文にない。
Some people say…, but I think… - 11Which is true about the writer?
答えb The writer disagrees with some classmates about the noise.
解説級友は too noisy と言い、筆者は but I think the noise level is acceptable と反対している=disagrees。The writer thinks the café is too noisy has never visited(行ったことがない)は I visited it on a Sunday と矛盾。works at the café(カフェで働く)は本文にない。

- 12Where will the contest be held?
答えa In the library
解説案内では Place:Main Hall だが、後のメールで the contest will be held in the library instead(代わりに図書館で)に変更。In the Main Hall In Ms. Clark's classroom It has not been decided(未定)は、図書館と明記されているので×。
- 13What is the new entry deadline?
答えa November 7
- 14Which student can enter the contest?
答えb A first-year student with a three-minute speech
解説条件は First- and second-year students かつ 3 to 5 minutes。 A third-year student(3年生)は学年が×。six-minute(6分)は長すぎ、two-minute(2分)は短すぎで×。
- 15What should students do when they enter?
答えd Submit only the entry form.
解説メールの drafts are no longer required at the time of entry(申し込み時に原稿は不要になった)から、出すのは申込用紙だけ。Attach a draft(原稿を添付)は案内の古い条件。Bring their draft on November Give a short speech to Ms. Clark(先生の前でスピーチ)は本文にない。
Many students at our school skip breakfast. ( ) they often feel tired during morning classes.
答えd As a result,
However(しかし)は逆接、In contrast(対照的に)は対比で、前後が反対の内容のときに使う。
As a result/Therefore/Consequently。原因:because of/due to。 Our town has many interesting places to visit.
答えa For example, the old castle and the riverside market attract many tourists.
However, few people live in our town(しかし住民は少ない)は話題がずれる。In conclusion, our town is an interesting place(結論として興味深い町だ)は主張のくり返しで例にならない。
For example/For instance/such as は具体例の合図。 Volunteering helps students learn new skills. ( ) Volunteering can even help students choose a future career.
答えc It also helps them make friends.
Volunteering also helps students make friends Students also help volunteering make friends However, it does not help…(友達づくりには役立たない)は良い点ではない。
【覚える】くり返し回避は代名詞(it/them)や言い換え(this activity)で。 - 19下書き:( ) Walking or cycling to school gives students daily exercise. It also reduces traffic around the school in the morning. In addition, students who walk say they feel more awake in class.
答えd There are several benefits to walking or cycling to school.
Many students take the bus(バス通学が多い)は徒歩・自転車の話と合わない。Traffic is a serious problem in big cities(大都市の交通問題)は利点の1つにしか触れず、話も大都市に広がる。
It also/In addition
- 20Sales of e-books doubled between 2020 and 2024, while sales of paper books declined slightly.
- 21Approximately half of the respondents said they exercise at least twice a week, while only one in ten said they never exercise.
解説approximately half=約50%、one in ten=10人に1人=約10%、at least twice a week=週2回以上。
【覚える】one in ten=10%、one in four=25%、a majority=過半数、a minority=少数。 - 22The number of foreign tourists rose sharply until 2019, dropped to almost zero in 2020, and has been recovering since then.
解説rose sharply(急増)→ dropped to almost zero(ほぼゼロに急落)→ has been recovering since then(それ以降回復中)の3段階。
【覚える】has been+-ing=今も続く変化。since then=それ以来。
