CHECK TEST
I'll never forget the day I met my host family.
答えa The speaker will always remember meeting the host family.
has forgotten(忘れてしまった)は逆、wants to meet again(また会いたい)は放送にない。
【覚える】never forget=always remember。 I can't wait for the school trip next week.
答えc The speaker is looking forward to the school trip.
解説can't wait for 〜 は「〜が待ちきれない=楽しみにしている」で is looking forward to と同じ。 is tired of waiting(待ちくたびれた)は wait の使い回し。was last week は next week を変えた時のずれ。
【覚える】can't wait for 名詞/to V=〜が楽しみだ。 Kenji must have left his umbrella on the train.
答えc Kenji almost certainly left his umbrella on the train.
解説must have p.p. is in his bag(かばんの中にある)は逆。is going to leave
Could you lend me your dictionary? Mine is at home.
答えb The speaker wants to borrow a dictionary.
left the listener's dictionary(相手の辞書を置いてきた)は Mine(自分の)の誤解。
Could you lend me 〜?=Can I borrow 〜? Not everyone in my class has a smartphone.
答えd Some students in the speaker's class don't have a smartphone.
No one(誰も持っていない)は全体否定にすりかえた誤答。Everyone … has は not を落とした逆。The speaker doesn't have
I didn't have to wait long for the bus this morning.
答えa The bus came soon after the speaker got to the bus stop.
解説didn't have to wait long は「長く待つ必要がなかった」→バスはすぐ来た。否定の didn't を落とすと waited a long time を選ぶ。missed the bus(乗り遅れた)・didn't take the bus(乗らなかった)は放送の内容と合わない。
【覚える】didn't have to V=V する必要がなかった。 The girl is about to jump into the pool.
【覚える】be about to V=まさに〜しようとしている(直前)。 The man has just finished painting the fence.
【覚える】have just finished -ing=ちょうど〜し終えた。 Neither of the boys is wearing a cap.
both/neither/one of
【覚える】Neither of the 複数名詞 is 〜=どちらも〜ない。 The cat is sleeping under the table, not on the chair.
解説under the table が正解の位置で、not on the chair は否定された位置。
【覚える】A, not B=B ではなく A(後ろの B が否定されている)。
- 11W:Let's put the new plant by the window. / M:Hmm, it gets too much sun there. How about next to the bookshelf? / W:But that corner is dark. Actually, what about on the table in front of the sofa? / M:Good idea. It gets some light there. / Question:Where will they put the plant?
答えa On the table in front of the sofa
By the window・Next to the bookshelf は否定された案。On the sofa は in front of the sofa の取り違え。
- 12(場面:友人どうしが土曜日の予定について話している)M:Are you going to the concert on Saturday? / W:I was going to, but I have to work. Why don't you go with Takeshi? / M:I asked him, but he's busy too. I guess I'll just stay home and study for the test. / W:The test is on Monday, so that's probably smart. / Question:What will the man do on Saturday?
答えa Study at home
I'll just stay home and study Go to the concert with Takeshi Work at his part-time job Go to the concert alone
What will the man do? - 13(場面:女子生徒が先生と話している)Student:Could I hand in my report on Friday instead of Wednesday? / Teacher:Is something wrong? / Student:My grandmother is in the hospital, so I'm visiting her after school this week. / Teacher:I see. Friday is fine. / Question:Why does the student want to hand in the report later?
答えb She is visiting a family member in the hospital.
club activities(部活)・lost her report(レポートをなくした)は会話にない。Why は because/so の周辺が手掛かり。
【覚える】grandmother→a family member(具体→抽象の言い換え)。 - 14(場面:店で客が店員と話している)Clerk:I'm afraid we don't have this shirt in medium. / Woman:Oh no. Can you order one? / Clerk:Sure, but it'll take about a week. Or our store on Main Street might have it. / Woman:Main Street is close to my office. I'll go there at lunchtime. / Question:What will the woman probably do?
答えa Visit another store
Order the shirt・Wait for a week は途中で出た案。Buy a shirt in a larger size
【覚える】I'll go there=(別の店に)行く→Visit another store。 - 15M:Can I borrow your bike this afternoon? / W:I'm afraid I need it to go to the dentist. But my brother's bike is in the garage, and he's away this week. / M:Great, thanks! / Question:Whose bike will the man probably use?
答えb The woman's brother's bike
解説I'm afraid … The woman's bike His own bike・The dentist's bike は会話にない。
【覚える】I'm afraid 〜.
① Mr. Brown:Our house is a ten-minute walk from the school. You'll have your own room upstairs. We have two cats, but they're very quiet. / ② Ms. Garcia:We live about a thirty-minute walk from the school. You'll have a private room with a desk, and there are no animals in our house. / ③ Mr. and Mrs. Lee:We're just fifteen minutes from the school on foot, and we don't have any pets. The only thing is, you'd share a room with another student from Brazil. / ④ Ms. Wilson:Our apartment is a fifteen-minute walk from the school, and there are no pets. You'll have your own bedroom with a great view. Just remember that the apartment is on the fifth floor and there's no elevator.

- 17③ Mr. and Mrs. Lee
解説徒歩15分・ペットなしという長所の後の The only thing is …
The only thing is/Just remember=但し書きの合図。
Emma:I'm thinking of joining the volunteer group at the library. / Ryo:That sounds nice. But didn't you say you wanted to get a part-time job? / Emma:I did. The job at the café pays well, but it's on weekends, so I'd have less time to study. / Ryo:The library group meets on Wednesday afternoons, right? / Emma:Yes, only two hours a week. Actually, I could do both… No, that's too much. I'll start with the library and think about a job next year. / Ryo:I think that's wise. Working every weekend would make it hard to get enough rest, too.

- 18What has Emma decided to do?
答えa Join the library volunteer group
I could do both… No, that's too much と気持ちが揺れた後、I'll start with the library Take the job at the café は「勉強時間が減る」と退けた案で、来年考えるとしている。
No, that's too much.=やっぱりやめる(前言撤回)。 - 19Which is Ryo's opinion?
答えb Working every weekend would make it hard to rest.
Working every weekend would make it hard to get enough rest The café job pays well は Emma の発言。The library group meets too often Emma should get a job this year は Ryo の「賢明だ」と逆。
Kai:I support the idea. Paper cups create a huge amount of waste at the festival every year. / Mina:I'm not sure. Washing all those cups would take a lot of work. / Ben:I agree with Mina. We don't have enough volunteers. / Kai:Actually, the cooking club said they would help wash the cups. / Mina:Oh, really? Then I think it could work. I'm for it. / Ben:Even so, I still think it's too much work.
Even so, I still think it's too much work と最後まで反対。
