IELTS Writing Task 2
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
(Discuss both views / To what extent / Why… and what…) Do the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages?
答えa Although this trend has some drawbacks, I believe its benefits are far more significant.
Although〜 drawbacks, I believe its benefits are far more significant This essay will discuss the advantages and disadvantages…(論じると予告するだけ)、it depends on the situation(状況による)は立場がない。In my opinion, I think that〜 は前置きの重複で、しかも「上回るか」に答えていない。
Do the advantages outweigh〜? → I believe the advantages / disadvantages are more significant. When everyone wears the same clothes, students from poorer families are less likely to feel embarrassed, and fewer students are teased about their appearance.
答えa One major advantage of school uniforms is that they reduce visible differences between students from different backgrounds.
However, uniforms can be expensive…(費用がかかる)は後ろと逆の内容。In conclusion…
【覚える】主題文(topic sentence)=One major advantage of A is that〜。
答えc In conclusion, although remote learning offers flexibility, I believe face-to-face classes remain more effective for most students.
解説結論は譲歩(although remote learning offers flexibility)+同じ立場の再確認(face-to-face classes remain more effective)。another important point is that remote learning reduces traffic(交通量を減らすという別の論点)は新しい論点で、結論の役割ではない。it depends on the student, so I cannot decide has good points and bad points(良い点も悪い点もある)は立場がぼやける。
- 5Many young people now shop online. , small local shops are struggling to survive.
答えb As a result
Nevertheless(それでもなお)は前と逆の結論を導く。In contrast(対照的に)は2つのものの対比。For instance(たとえば)は具体例を導く。
【覚える】因果=As a result / Consequently / Therefore。 - 6Public transport is cheaper than driving. , it produces far less pollution per passenger.
答えa Moreover
However(しかし)は逆接で、前と反対の内容が来る。Otherwise(さもなければ)は条件の裏を表す。
【覚える】追加=Moreover / Furthermore / In addition / What is more。 - 7Admittedly, online courses are convenient. , they cannot fully replace face-to-face teaching.
答えd However
解説Admittedly(確かに)で相手の意見(便利さ)を一度認め、However(しかし)で押し返すのが譲歩の型。 Similarly(同様に)は同じ内容の追加、For example(たとえば)は具体例で、反論につながらない。
Admittedly / It is true that〜. However,〜./While it is true that〜,〜.
答えb It is clear that many children do not get enough exercise.
(It is / do not)、kids → children と中立の語を使い、many で範囲を限った書き言葉の文体が正解。It's obvious that kids don't… Everyone knows that kids never exercise… Kids, like, don't really…
【覚える】Task 2 の文体:短縮形なし・口語(kids / a lot)を避ける・many / some で範囲を限る。 - 9Spending too much time on screens can have a effect on children's sleep.
解説have a detrimental effect on〜 は「〜に悪影響を与える」。 beneficial(有益な)は形容詞として位置は合うが、too much(多すぎる)と意味が合わない。
【覚える】have a detrimental / negative / adverse effect on〜=〜に悪影響を与える。 - 10Working part-time allows students to valuable experience.
答えa gain
make・do・take は experience と組まない。
- 11Governments spend money on healthcare every year.
答えc a great deal of
解説money は不可算名詞なので a great deal of(多量の)を使う。a large number of・many・a few は可算名詞の複数形に使うので money と合わない。a lot of を格上げするときは、可算(a large number of)と不可算(a great deal of / a large amount of)で使い分ける。
【覚える】可算=a large number of / many/不可算=a great deal of / a large amount of / much。
- 12There is(A) growing(B) evidence that a sedentary(C) lifestyle increase(D) the risk of heart disease.
(A) is は、evidence が不可算名詞なので There is で正しい。(B) growing evidence(増えつつある証拠)、(C) sedentary(座りがちな)は正しい。
There is growing evidence that〜=〜という証拠が増えている(evidence は不可算)。 - 13Despite(A) the government has introduced new laws, the number of(B) traffic accidents has(C) not fallen significantly(D).
答えa (A)
S V(the government has introduced…) (A) Despite を接続詞の Although / Even though にする(Despite the fact that〜 でも可)。(B) the number of は accidents が可算で正しく、単数扱いで (C) has も合っている。(D) significantly(大きく)も正しい。
【覚える】despite / in spite of+名詞/although / even though+S V。 - 14Governments should provide more(A) funding for scientific(B) research, as(C) it can leads(D) to new medical treatments.
(A) more funding(funding は不可算)、(B) scientific research(research も不可算)、(C) 理由の接続詞 as(〜なので)は正しい。it は scientific research を指す。
【覚える】助動詞(can / may / should / will)+動詞の原形。 - 15A large number of(A) students is(B) now choosing to study abroad(C) in order to(D) improve their language skills.
解説a large number of〜(多くの〜)は複数扱いなので、(B) is を are にする。the number of〜(〜の数)なら単数扱いで is になる。(A) a large number of、(C) abroad(副詞なので前置詞を付けない)、(D) in order to(〜するために)は正しい。
【覚える】a (large) number of+複数名詞=複数扱い/the number of+複数名詞=単数扱い。 - 16Advertising has(A) a significant(B) influence to(C) what children want to buy(D).
解説have an influence on〜(〜に影響を与える)の前置詞は on なので、(C) to を on にする。 (A) has は advertising が不可算名詞なので正しく、(B) significant(大きな)、(D) to buy(want to do)も正しい。
【覚える】have an influence / effect / impact on〜=〜に影響を与える(すべて on)。 - 17Since 2015, the cost of housing rose(A) dramatically(B) in many(C) large cities, making(D) it difficult for young people to buy homes.
答えa (A)
(B) dramatically(劇的に)、(C) many large cities は正しい。(D) making it difficult for〜 to do(〜が…
, making it difficult for A to do=その結果 A が〜しにくくなる。
- 18Regular exercise is good for mental health. = Regular exercise is b to mental health.
解説be beneficial to / for〜 は「〜にとって有益だ」で、good の格上げ。
【覚える】good → beneficial / advantageous、bad → harmful / detrimental。 - 19The new policy will have a big impact on the economy. = The new policy will have a s impact on the economy.
答えsignificant/substantial
have an impact on〜(〜に影響を与える)の on もセットで覚える。
【覚える】big → significant / substantial / considerable。impact / effect on〜。 - 20It is very important that children learn to swim. = It is c that children learn to swim.
It is crucial that S (should) V crucial は very important の意味を1語で持つので、very は付けない(very crucial は不自然)。
【覚える】very important → crucial / essential / vital。It is crucial that S (should) 原形。 - 21Research shows that sleep affects memory. = Research d that sleep affects memory.
主語が Research(三人称単数・不可算)なので -s が要り demonstrates。
【覚える】show → demonstrate(強い)/ indicate(中)/ suggest(弱い)。 - 22Air pollution is a serious problem in many cities. = Air pollution is a serious i in many cities.
難題・課題の意味なら challenge(face a challenge)も使える。
Some people believe that university education should be free for all students. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
答えIn many countries, the cost of a university degree has risen sharply, and many students graduate with large debts. I strongly agree that higher education should be free, because it gives every talented young person an equal chance to succeed.
(I strongly agree / disagree that〜 because〜)。 One reason why cities should build more cycling lanes is that they encourage healthier lifestyles.
答えWhen safe cycling routes are available, many people choose to ride to work or school instead of driving. This builds regular exercise into their daily routines without requiring extra time. For example, a student who cycles to school for twenty minutes each way gets more than three hours of exercise a week. As a result, the wider use of bicycles could help reduce problems such as obesity.
【覚える】本論の段落:主題文→説明→例(For example)→まとめ(As a result / Therefore)。
While it is true that parents are mainly responsible for what their children eat, advertising makes it much harder for them to say no.
解説採点ポイントは①While it is true that〜, … か Admittedly,〜. However,… Admittedly, parents should control their children's diet. However, advertising strongly influences what children ask for.
While it is true that A, B.=確かに A だが B(B が自分の主張)。 In many countries, young people are spending more and more time on their smartphones. Why is this happening? Is it a positive or negative development?
答えIn recent years, smartphones have become an essential part of young people's lives, and many teenagers now spend several hours a day looking at their screens. This essay will explain why this is happening and argue that, on balance, it is a negative development. / The main reason for this trend is that smartphones now combine almost every activity that young people enjoy. A single device allows them to chat with friends, watch videos, play games and keep up with the news. In addition, many apps are designed to hold users' attention for as long as possible, for example by recommending one short video after another. As a result, a teenager who intends to check a message for a minute can easily end up scrolling for an hour. / Although smartphones have some clear benefits, such as giving students instant access to information, I believe that heavy use does more harm than good. Firstly, time spent on screens often replaces activities that are vital for healthy development, such as sleep, exercise and face-to-face conversation. A student who uses a phone in bed late at night is likely to feel tired and find it harder to concentrate in class the next day. Secondly, constant comparison with others on social media can damage young people's self-confidence, since the images they see are often carefully edited. / In conclusion, young people spend so much time on smartphones mainly because these devices offer endless entertainment and are designed to be hard to put down. While they can be useful tools, I believe excessive use is a negative development because it harms young people's health and well-being.(269語)
