A small boat is in a big storm. The waves are very high. The men are scared. Jesus is in the boat, too. Someone stole this painting in 1990. Nobody knows where it is now.

Huge waves are about to swallow a small boat. The sail is torn, and the men hold on to the ropes for their lives. In the dark on the right, Jesus has just woken up, with his followers around him. In the New Testament, this is the moment just before Jesus calms the storm. Rembrandt painted it in 1633, when he was about 27. It is said to be his only seascape.

【本文の訳】大波が小さな船をのみこもうとしています。帆はやぶれ、男たちは必死にロープにしがみつきます。右の暗がりでは、目をさましたイエスが弟子たちに囲まれています。新約聖書で、イエスが嵐をしずめる場面の直前です。描いたのは27歳ごろのレンブラント。1633年の作品で、彼が描いた海の絵はこれ1点だけといわれます。
