The church on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice stands as a dark shape against a glowing sky and sea. It was painted by Claude Monet, the great French Impressionist, in 1908, when he was 68. Today it hangs in National Museum Cardiff, in Wales.

Fun Fact（訳）

「美しすぎて描けない」と言いながら… モネはヴェネツィアのことを「美しすぎて描けない」と語ったと伝えられています。ところが実際には、滞在中に何十枚ものカンヴァスを描きはじめました。言葉とは反対に、夢中で筆を動かしていたのです。
