フランスのブールジュに生まれ、姉と一緒に絵を学びました。1874年の第1回印象派展に女性としてただ一人参加し、その後もほとんどの回に出品しました。家族や子ども、庭や窓辺など、身近な暮らしを、すばやく軽やかな筆で描きました。マネの弟ウジェーヌと結婚し、娘ジュリーをモデルにたくさんの絵を描いています。
Morisot was born in Bourges, France, and studied painting with her sister. In 1874, she was the only woman in the first Impressionist exhibition. She showed her work at almost every one after that. She painted everyday life, like family, children, gardens and windows, with quick, light brushwork. She married Eugène Manet, the brother of Édouard Manet. Her daughter Julie was her model for many paintings.
