Millais was born in Southampton, southern England. A true genius, he entered the Royal Academy Schools at 11, the youngest student ever. In 1848, he started the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood with Rossetti and others, aiming for a new art that showed nature in close, true detail. In his masterpiece, Ophelia, the riverside flowers look like a botany book. In his last year, he became President of the Royal Academy.
