Klee was born near Bern, Switzerland, into a family of musicians, and he was a fine violinist himself. He studied art in Munich and got to know Kandinsky and others. A trip to Tunisia in 1914 opened his eyes to color. He made free, childlike pictures with musical rhythm. He taught at the Bauhaus and left nearly 10,000 works.

“Color and I are one. I am a painter.”

— Paul Klee, Diary, April 1914, during his trip to Tunisia(日記(1914年4月、チュニジア旅行中))
