ヴェネツィアの画家一家に生まれ、父ヤーコポと兄ジェンティーレも画家でした。油絵の具をいち早く取り入れ、やわらかな光と色で聖母子や風景を描きました。ヴェネツィアの公式の画家として活躍し、元首（ドージェ）レオナルド・ロレダンの肖像も描いています。弟子にはジョルジョーネやティツィアーノがいて、80歳ごろまで描き続けました。
Bellini was born into a family of painters in Venice. His father Jacopo and his brother Gentile were painters too. He was one of the first in Venice to use oil paint, and he painted the Madonna and landscapes in soft light and color. He became the official painter of Venice and painted Doge Leonardo Loredan. His pupils included Giorgione and Titian, and he kept painting until he was about 80.
