A painting of the Last Judgment hangs on the wall behind her. She looks down and waits quietly for the balance to settle. As in many Vermeer paintings, time seems to stand still.

🦉 Fun Fact! As the old title says, people believed there was gold or pearls in the pans. But under a microscope, the pans are empty. She is not weighing anything. She seems to be waiting for the empty scales to come to rest.
