This is Vermeer's town, Delft. You can see water, boats and old buildings. The sky is very big. A famous French writer loved this painting. He called it the most beautiful painting in the world!
View of Delft is a picture of Vermeer's hometown, painted around 1660. From the south, we look across the Kolk, a small harbor, at gates, houses and a church tower. More than half of the picture is cloudy sky. The buildings in front lie in the shadow of the clouds, while the tower of the New Church shines in the sun. This is Vermeer's only surviving wide view of Delft.

Fun Fact（訳）
名作家が「黄色い小さな壁」にくぎづけ プルーストの小説で、作家ベルゴットはこの絵の「黄色い小さな壁」の美しさに感動しながら、その場でたおれてしまいます。プルースト自身も1921年、パリの展覧会でこの絵を見ている最中に具合が悪くなったと伝えられています。
