Beyond a terrace full of flowers, the blue sea stretches out, with sailing ships and steamships passing by. It is summer at Sainte-Adresse, a seaside resort on the English Channel in northern France. Claude Monet painted it in 1867, when he was about 26. Today it is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
