This is Augustus, the first emperor of Rome. He wears armour, but he has no shoes. He raises his hand and talks to his soldiers. The month August got its name from him!

This is a marble statue of Augustus, the first emperor of Rome. It was found in 1863 at the villa of his wife, Livia, at Prima Porta, north of Rome. That is how it got its name. He wears armour and raises his right hand, as if he is speaking to his soldiers. This image is an old black-and-white photo from the 19th century.
