A man walks with his two girls and a dog. Degas cut the people at the edges, like a photo. People thought this painting was lost in the war. But in 1995, it appeared again in Russia!

A gentleman in a top hat, his two daughters and a slim dog cross the Place de la Concorde in Paris. Edgar Degas painted this in 1875. The man is Viscount Lepic, a painter and printmaker who was Degas's friend. The girls are Eylau and Janine. The painting is now in the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

🦉 Fun Fact! Part of the Gerstenberg collection in Berlin burned in an air raid during the war, and the rest was taken to the Soviet Union. People thought this painting had burned too. But in the 1990s, it was revealed that the Hermitage had been keeping it in secret.
