Bears play in a forest in the morning. Little bears climb a fallen tree. Their mother watches them. Two painters made this picture. One painted the forest, and his friend painted the bears!

In the morning mist, a mother bear and her cubs play on a fallen tree in a forest of tall pines. The cubs climb the tree while the mother watches. In 1889, Ivan Shishkin, famous for painting Russian forests, painted the forest, and his friend Konstantin Savitsky painted the bears. It is one of the most famous paintings in Russia.

🦉 Fun Fact! Savitsky's signature was covered with paint, and traces of it remain. A famous story says Tretyakov thought the whole painting was in Shishkin's style and had the signature removed with turpentine. But Savitsky may have covered it himself. The truth is unknown.

Fun Fact（訳）

署名はなぜ覆われた？ サヴィツキーの署名は絵の具で覆われ、今もその跡が残っています。トレチャコフが「最初から最後までシーシキンの絵だ」と考え、テレピン油で消させたという話は有名です。でも、サヴィツキー自身が覆った可能性も指摘されていて、真相は分かっていません。
