Napoleon sits on a gold throne. He looks at us. He wears red, white and gold. He looks like a god, not a man. Look at the carpet. A small picture by Raphael is hiding there!

Napoleon, now emperor, sits facing us on a golden throne. He wears a Roman-style laurel wreath, a white ermine collar, and holds two symbols of royal power: the sceptre of Charles V and the Hand of Justice. He has every symbol of royal power. The painter was Ingres, who later became one of France's greatest artists. He was only about 25 at the time.

【本文の訳】皇帝になったナポレオンが、金の玉座に正面を向いて座っています。頭には古代ローマ風の月桂冠、肩には白い毛皮（アーミン）のえり、手には「シャルル5世の笏（しゃく）」と「正義の手」という2本の王権の杖。王の権力を表す道具をすべて身につけた姿です。描いたのは、のちにフランスを代表する画家になるアングル。当時まだ25歳ごろでした。
