This painting has no people and no houses. It has only colors, lines and shapes. The painter loved music. He wanted to paint music with colors. He finished this big painting in only a few days!

Colors, lines and shapes swirl and crash across the whole canvas. Art that simplifies or changes real things, or does not show them clearly at all, is called abstract art. Wassily Kandinsky, who was born in Russia, painted it in Munich in 1913. It is two meters tall and three meters wide, and it is often called one of his most complex works.

【本文の訳】色と線と形が、画面いっぱいにうずを巻いてぶつかり合っています。目に見える物をそのまま描かず、形を単純にしたり、何かわからないほど変えたりした絵を「抽象画」といいます。描いたのはロシア生まれのワシリー・カンディンスキー。1913年、ドイツのミュンヘンで描いた、高さ2メートル、幅3メートルの大作で、彼の作品の中でもとくに複雑な絵の一つと言われます。
