This is a masterpiece from Rembrandt's last years. A richly dressed man gently places his hand on a woman's chest. She softly touches his hand with her own. They do not look at each other. Each seems lost in thought, and we feel a quiet, deep love. The title "The Jewish Bride" is a nickname given later. No one knows who the couple really are.

🦉 Fun Fact! In 1885, Van Gogh visited the Rijksmuseum with his friend Anton Kerssemakers and spent a long time in front of this painting. The friend later recalled that Van Gogh said he would give ten years of his life to sit in front of it for two weeks with only dry bread to eat.

【本文の訳】レンブラント晩年の傑作です。豪華な服の男性が、女性の胸もとにそっと手を置き、女性はその手に自分の手を重ねています。二人は見つめあうのではなく、それぞれ物思いにふけるような目をしていて、静かで深い愛情が伝わってきます。題名の「ユダヤの花嫁」は後からつけられたあだ名で、本当はだれを描いたのかはわかっていません。

    解説：イサクとリベカの姿を借りた夫婦という説が有力ですが、だれかはわかっていません。
  2. T　「ユダヤの花嫁」という題名は、レンブラントがつけたものではない。

ゴッホ「寿命が10年縮んでもいい！」 1885年、ゴッホは友人アントン・ケルセマケルスと国立美術館を訪れ、この絵の前で長い時間を過ごしました。ゴッホが「かたいパンだけで2週間この絵の前に座っていられるなら、命の10年をさし出してもいい」と語ったと、その友人が後に回想しています。
