This picture shows many fish and a big octopus. Look at the octopus's long leg. A baby octopus is holding it! Jakuchū grew up near Nishiki Market in Kyoto. Fish and vegetables were sold there.

This painting shows many fish swimming around a big octopus. It is one of the thirty scrolls of 'Colorful Realm of Living Beings,' the masterpiece of Itō Jakuchū, a Kyoto painter of the Edo period. It is thought to date from around 1766 and is now in the Museum of the Imperial Collections, Sannomaru Shōzōkan. In 2021, all thirty scrolls were named a National Treasure together.
