A girl with long reddish-brown hair and a blue ribbon sits quietly, facing to the side. She is Irène, the eight-year-old eldest daughter of the wealthy Paris banker Louis Cahen d'Anvers. In 1880, her family asked Renoir to paint her. The green background and the blue shadows on her white dress make her skin and hair shine.

🦉 Fun Fact! In 2018, the Bührle Collection exhibition came to the National Art Center, Tokyo. Posters marketed Irène as 'the ultimate beauty in art history' and compared her to the center of a pop idol group. The painting became very popular and is especially loved in Japan.
