This is a young hare. Dürer painted it in 1502. You can see every hair and whisker. Look at its eye. You can see a little window in it! The real picture is shown only once every few years.

In 1502, Dürer painted this young hare in watercolor. The background is just plain paper. The soft fur, long ears, stiff whiskers and even the claws look alive. He did not use only brown. He layered thin lines of gray, white and gold to show how soft the fur is.
