This man is Dr Gachet, Van Gogh's doctor. He is resting his head on his hand. He looks a little sad. Van Gogh painted two pictures of him. The other one sold for a lot of money in 1990.
In June 1890, in the village of Auvers-sur-Oise near Paris, Van Gogh painted this portrait of the doctor Paul Gachet. Wearing a white cap and a blue jacket, Gachet leans on a red table and rests his head on his hand. On the table lies foxglove, a medicinal plant. This is the second of two versions, and it is in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
