In a blue-violet fog, a railway bridge over the River Thames lies faintly across the picture. White steam from a train rises on the bridge, and the towers of the Houses of Parliament stand in silhouette at the right. Sunlight from above scatters sparkles over the river. It belongs to Monet's London series and is signed "Claude Monet 1903" at the lower left. It is now in the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, France.

🦉 Fun Fact! A suspension bridge designed by the engineer Brunel once stood here. When it was replaced by a railway bridge in the 1860s, its chains were reused for the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol. Today's railway bridge still stands on the brick piers of Brunel's bridge.

古い橋の鎖は、別の名橋に この場所には、もともと技師ブルネルが設計したつり橋がかかっていました。鉄道を通すため1860年代に架けかえられたとき、古い橋の鎖は、ブリストルのクリフトンつり橋に再利用されたのです。今の鉄道橋も、ブルネルの橋のレンガの橋脚を使い続けています。
