A small boat sails on the sea. The wind is strong, so the boat leans. One man and three boys are on it. The painter first painted four boys. Later, he painted one boy out!

A small sailboat leans hard as it cuts through white waves. On board are one man, three boys and their fresh catch of fish. Winslow Homer, who also painted 'The Gulf Stream', made it. He used sketches from the summer of 1873, which he spent in the fishing town of Gloucester, and finished it over three years.

🦉 Fun Fact! Infrared studies showed that there was once another boy near the mast. Homer painted him out and put an anchor in the bow instead. There also used to be a second sailing ship in the distance.

【本文の訳】白い波をけたてて、小さな帆船がぐっとかたむきながら進みます。乗っているのは、男の人1人と少年3人、そしてとれたての魚。描いたのは「メキシコ湾流」と同じホーマーです。1873年の夏、漁師町グロスターで過ごしたときのスケッチをもとに、3年かけて仕上げました。
