The younger girl, probably her sister, turns to look up at two rainbows in the sky. The British Pre-Raphaelite painter Millais painted this in 1854–1856. It is now in the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.

🦉 Fun Fact! In a double rainbow, the colors of the outer bow are in the opposite order to the inner one. At first, Millais painted both bows in the same order. After the painting was shown, someone pointed this out, and he corrected it. It is a typical story of the Pre-Raphaelites, who tried to paint nature exactly.

虹の色の順番をまちがえた！ 虹が2本出るとき、外側の虹は内側の虹と色の順番が逆になります。ミレイははじめ、2本とも同じ順番で描いていました。発表のあとでそれを指摘され、科学的に正しく描き直したのです。自然をすみずみまで正確に描こうとした、ラファエル前派らしい話です。
