This painting shows the Battle of San Romano, fought in 1432 between the armies of Florence and Siena. The man on the white horse in a big red and gold hat is Niccolò da Tolentino, the Florentine commander. It was once one of a set of three large panels. The other two are in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and the Louvre in Paris.

Fun Fact（訳）

鎧はもともと銀ピカだった 兵士たちの鎧には、もとは本物の銀箔がはられていました。完成したときは光り輝いていたはずですが、銀は時間がたつと黒ずむため、今は灰色や黒に見えます。一方、金箔の飾りは今も明るく光っています。
