This is George Washington. His face is finished, but most of his body is not painted. Much of the canvas is empty! The painter made many copies of this face. You can see it on the one-dollar bill.
The face is carefully finished, but the collar and shoulders are only partly painted, and much of the lower canvas is bare. This is an unfinished portrait of George Washington, the first President of the United States, painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1796. It is called the 'Athenaeum Portrait' because the Boston Athenaeum, a library in Boston, later bought it.
