中国・北宋時代の画家で、生まれた年や亡くなった年ははっきりしていません。都の開封で学び、船や車、橋や建物を定規を使って正確に描く「界画」を得意としたと伝えられます。代表作《清明上河図》は、長さ5メートルをこえる巻物に、川ぞいの町のにぎわいと人々の暮らしを細かく描いた、中国絵画の宝です。
Zhang Zeduan was a painter of the Northern Song dynasty in China. We do not know exactly when he was born or died. He is said to have studied in the capital, Kaifeng, and to have been skilled at precise paintings of boats, carts, bridges and buildings. His masterpiece, Along the River During the Qingming Festival, is a scroll over five meters long. It shows the busy life of a riverside town in great detail.
