Uccello worked in Florence. As a young man, he trained in the workshop of the sculptor Ghiberti. He became obsessed with perspective and tried to draw all kinds of objects in depth. In Florence Cathedral, he painted a fresco of the soldier John Hawkwood that looks like a statue on horseback. His famous Battle of San Romano is made of three panels. Today they are split between London, Florence and Paris.
