スペインのバレンシアに生まれました。2歳で両親を病気で亡くし、おじとおばに育てられます。故郷の海辺で遊ぶ子どもたちや、白い服が光にすける人々を、まぶしい日ざしごと描きました。アメリカでも大人気になり、ニューヨークの協会のためにスペイン各地を描いた巨大な壁画の連作をつくりました。
Sorolla was born in Valencia, Spain. He lost both parents to illness when he was two and was raised by his aunt and uncle. He painted children playing on the beaches of his home town and people in white clothes glowing in the sun. He became very popular in the United States, too. He painted a huge series of murals about the regions of Spain for a society in New York.
