Signac was born in Paris and taught himself to paint. After meeting Seurat, he began painting with dots. When Seurat died young, Signac became the leader who carried on and spread the method. Over time, his dots grew larger, like mosaic tiles, and his colors became brighter. He also wrote a book, From Eugène Delacroix to Neo-Impressionism, which inspired Matisse and the next generation.
