Rossetti was born in London. His father was a scholar who had fled from Italy, and he was named after the great Italian poet Dante. In 1848, he started the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood with Millais and others. Later, he painted many dreamy half-length portraits of women with thick hair and full lips. He was also a poet and sometimes made a painting and a poem as a pair.
