エーゲ海にうかぶギリシャのロドス島出身の、3人の彫刻家です。古代ローマの学者プリニウスが、名作「ラオコーン」の作者として3人の名前を書き残しました。生まれた年も亡くなった年もわかっていませんが、紀元前1世紀から紀元1世紀ごろに活躍したと考えられています。ねじれる体やはげしい表情で、動きと感情を大理石にきざみこみました。
They were three sculptors from Rhodes, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. The Roman writer Pliny the Elder named them as the makers of the famous Laocoön. No one knows when they were born or died, but they probably worked between the 1st century BC and the 1st century AD. They carved twisting bodies and strong emotions into marble, full of movement and feeling.
