フィレンツェの近くのサン・ジョヴァンニ・ヴァルダルノに生まれました。建築家ブルネレスキが考えた遠近法を絵に取り入れ、フィレンツェのサンタ・マリア・ノヴェッラ聖堂の「聖三位一体」では、壁に奥行きのある礼拝堂があるように見せました。ブランカッチ礼拝堂の壁画では、重さのある力強い人物を描いています。しかしローマで、わずか26歳で亡くなりました。
Masaccio was born in San Giovanni Valdarno, near Florence. He used the new system of perspective worked out by the architect Brunelleschi. In his Holy Trinity in the church of Santa Maria Novella, the flat wall seems to open into a deep chapel. In the Brancacci Chapel, he painted strong, solid figures. Sadly, he died in Rome at only 26.
