ウィリアム・ホルマン・ハント

代表作の一つ『贖罪のヤギ（スケープゴート）』は、聖書に出てくる、人々の罪を背負わされて荒れ野に追われるヤギの絵です。ハントは本物の風景を描くため、死海のほとりまで出かけて制作しました。

One of his best-known works, The Scapegoat, shows a goat from the Bible that is sent into the wilderness carrying people's sins. To paint the real landscape, Hunt went all the way to the shore of the Dead Sea.

ハントが1910年に亡くなると、その遺骨はロンドンのセント・ポール大聖堂の地下におさめられました。すぐそばには、イギリスの大画家ターナーのお墓があります。

When Hunt died in 1910, his ashes were placed in the crypt of St Paul's Cathedral in London. They lie close to the grave of the great British painter Turner.

1905年、ハントは『ラファエル前派主義とラファエル前派兄弟団』という本を出し、若いころの仲間との活動を書き残しました。同じ年には、名誉あるメリット勲章も受けています。

In 1905, Hunt published a book called Pre-Raphaelitism and the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood, telling the story of his early years with his friends. In the same year, he received the Order of Merit, a great honor.
