北宋の第8代皇帝で、1100年から1125年まで国を治めました。政治よりも芸術を愛し、宮廷の画院を盛んにして、画家を育てる学校もつくります。自身も花や鳥の絵、そして「痩金体」という細くするどい書体の書にすぐれていました。宮廷の名品を記録した目録も残っています。晩年は北の国・金に連れて行かれ、都に戻れないまま亡くなりました。
Huizong was the eighth emperor of the Northern Song dynasty and ruled from 1100 to 1125. He loved art more than politics. He made the court painting academy stronger and even set up a school to train painters. He himself was a fine painter of flowers and birds and created a thin, sharp style of calligraphy called 'Slender Gold.' Catalogues of the palace treasures were made on his orders. In his last years he was taken north by the Jin and never returned to his capital.
