元の時代の画家で、「元末四大家」の一人です。今の江蘇省常熟に生まれました。役人として働いたあと道教の修行者となり、各地を旅しながら本格的に山水画を描きました。代表作《富春山居図》は、80歳近くになってから数年かけて描いた長い巻物で、のちの中国の画家たちの手本になりました。
Huang Gongwang was a painter of the Yuan dynasty and one of the 'Four Masters of the Yuan.' He was born in Changshu, in today's Jiangsu Province. After working as a clerk, he became a Daoist and traveled while painting landscapes seriously. His masterpiece, Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains, is a long scroll he painted over several years from the age of nearly 80. It became a model for later Chinese painters.
