江戸で活躍した浮世絵師です。1765年、趣味人たちのあいだで「絵暦」（カレンダーの絵）を交換するのがはやり、春信は多くの色の版を重ねて刷る、あざやかな多色刷りの版画を手がけました。これが「錦絵」のはじまりです。ほっそりとして人形のようにかわいらしい男女を、やさしい色で描きました。亡くなるまでのわずか5年ほどで、たくさんの作品を残しています。
Harunobu was an ukiyo-e artist in Edo. In 1765, wealthy hobbyists liked to trade picture calendars. Harunobu designed bright prints using many color blocks printed one on top of another. This was the beginning of nishiki-e, or 'brocade pictures,' full-color woodblock prints. He drew slim, doll-like young people in soft colors. In only about five years before his death, he made a great many prints.
