ヴェネツィアの近くのカステルフランコ・ヴェネトに生まれ、ベッリーニのもとで学んだと言われます。人物と風景を一つの空気でつつみこむような、詩のような絵で、ヴェネツィアの絵画を新しくしました。しかし30代前半で、ヴェネツィアをおそった疫病で亡くなりました。記録がとても少なく、確かに彼の作品とされる絵は数点しかありません。
Giorgione was born in Castelfranco Veneto, near Venice, and is said to have studied with Bellini. His poetic paintings wrap people and landscape in the same soft air, and they changed Venetian painting. But he died in his early thirties during an outbreak of plague in Venice. Very few records about him survive, and only a handful of paintings are certainly his.
