オランダのミッデンベームステルに生まれ、アムステルダムでレンブラントの弟子になりました。のちにデルフトに移ります。師匠とは反対に、明るい背景に人物や物を置く描き方を試しました。しかし1654年、デルフトの火薬庫の大爆発に巻きこまれ、32歳で亡くなりました。アトリエの作品の多くも失われ、今残る絵は十数点ほどしかありません。
Fabritius was born in Middenbeemster in the Netherlands and became a pupil of Rembrandt in Amsterdam. Later he moved to Delft. Unlike his teacher, he tried placing figures and objects against light backgrounds. But in 1654, he was killed in a huge gunpowder explosion in Delft. He was only 32. Many works in his studio were lost, and only about a dozen of his paintings survive today.
