ドゥッチョ・ディ・ブオニンセーニャ

1285年にドゥッチョがフィレンツェの教会のために描いた聖母の絵「ルチェッライの聖母」は、16世紀のヴァザーリによって、フィレンツェの画家チマブーエの作品だとされてしまいました。今はドゥッチョの作品とわかり、ウフィツィ美術館にあります。

In 1285, Duccio painted a large Madonna for a church in Florence, now called the Rucellai Madonna. In the 16th century, Vasari said it was by the Florentine painter Cimabue. Today we know it is by Duccio. It hangs in the Uffizi Gallery.

シエナの古い記録には、ドゥッチョが何度も罰金を科されたことが残っています。借金を返さなかったり、戦争の兵役をことわったりしたためです。すばらしい画家なのに、お金の管理は苦手だったようです。

Old records in Siena show that Duccio was fined many times, for things like unpaid debts and refusing military service. He was a wonderful painter, but it seems he was not good with money.

2004年、ニューヨークのメトロポリタン美術館は、ドゥッチョの小さな「聖母子」を約4500万ドルで手に入れたと伝えられています。当時、この美術館が買った作品の中で、いちばん高いものでした。

In 2004, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York reportedly bought a small Madonna and Child by Duccio for about 45 million dollars. At the time, it was the most expensive work the museum had ever bought.
