イングランドのバーミンガムに生まれました。オックスフォード大学で牧師をめざして学んでいたとき、生涯の親友となるウィリアム・モリスと出会い、二人で芸術の道に進みます。ロセッティに絵を学び、中世の物語や伝説を、夢のように美しく描きました。モリスの会社でステンドグラスやタペストリーのデザインも数多く手がけ、1894年には准男爵の位をさずかりました。
Burne-Jones was born in Birmingham, England. While studying at Oxford University to become a clergyman, he met William Morris, who became his lifelong best friend, and the two decided to become artists. He learned painting from Rossetti and painted legends and medieval stories in a beautiful, dreamlike way. He also designed many stained-glass windows and tapestries for Morris's company. In 1894 he was made a baronet.
