パリ生まれの、ロココ美術を代表する画家です。パステルカラーのふんわりした色で、神話の神々や羊飼いの恋、ばら色のほおの子どもたちを描きました。国王ルイ15世の愛人ポンパドゥール夫人に気に入られて何枚も肖像画を描き、1765年には「国王の首席画家」にまでのぼりつめました。絵だけでなく、タペストリーや陶磁器のデザインも手がけました。
Boucher, born in Paris, is the great painter of Rococo art. He used soft pastel colors to paint ancient gods, shepherds in love and rosy-cheeked children. Madame de Pompadour, a favorite of King Louis XV, loved his work, and he painted her many times. In 1765, he became First Painter to the King. He also designed tapestries and porcelain.
