Boccioni was born in Reggio Calabria in southern Italy. He became a leader of Futurism, a movement that praised machines, speed and the energy of cities. In both painting and sculpture, he tried to show movement itself. His famous sculpture, Unique Forms of Continuity in Space, shows a figure striding through the wind. In 1916, during World War I, he fell from a horse in army training and died at 33.
