1One day, a manager was talking with his staff at an online shopping company. He suggested that they introduce an AI system to answer customers' questions. He explained that it could provide support 24 hours a day. 2A few weeks later, the company started using an AI chat service on its website. A customer was able to get an answer late at night, and she looked pleased. The manager was happy to see that customers no longer had to wait so long. 3The next month, the manager decided to reduce the number of staff members who answered phone calls. Some of them were moved to other departments, and the office became much quieter. 4Six months later, however, the manager was reading many complaints from customers. They said that the AI kept giving the same answers and that they could not talk to a real person. The manager was holding his head in his hands and looked very worried.

No.1Please look at the fourth picture. If you were the manager, what would you be thinking?

反省型

I'd be thinking, "I shouldn't have reduced the number of phone staff so quickly. AI can't handle every problem that customers have."

I'd be thinking, "We need to make it easier for customers to talk to a real person. I'll bring back some staff members to deal with difficult questions."

No.2〜No.4(カードを裏返して)

No.2Do you think people will trust information provided by AI in the future?

Yes, I think so. AI is becoming more accurate every year, and many people already use it to search for information or get advice. For example, students often ask AI to explain difficult ideas, and some doctors are starting to use it to check medical images. As it continues to improve, people will feel more comfortable relying on it.

No.3Should companies always give customers a way to talk to a human staff member?

Yes, I think they should. AI can answer simple questions, but it often cannot understand complicated or emotional problems. For example, if a customer receives a broken product or is charged twice, they want someone who can listen and take responsibility. Giving customers access to a real person helps companies keep their customers' trust.

No.4Today, many jobs are changing because of new technology. Do you think the government should do more to help workers learn new skills?

Yes, I think so. As technology changes quickly, many people may lose their jobs or need to change careers. The government could offer free online courses or financial support for people who want to study programming or nursing, for example. This would help workers stay employed and also benefit the economy as a whole.
