Sofia	Daiki, why is Monday a holiday next week?
Daiki	It's Marine Day. It's a national holiday for the sea.
Sofia	A holiday for the sea? We don't have that in Italy.
Daiki	The government says no other country has one. Japan has about 14,000 islands, you know.
Sofia	Wow! So how did it start?
Daiki	In 1876, Emperor Meiji came back to Yokohama on a ship called the Meiji Maru. It was July 20.
Sofia	Then why isn't the holiday on July 20?
Daiki	It was, but since 2003 it's been on the third Monday. That gives us a long weekend.
Sofia	Smart idea! Is the Meiji Maru still around?
Daiki	Yes. It's at a university in Tokyo. You can go inside on open days.
Sofia	I'd love to see it. What do people usually do on Marine Day?
Daiki	Most people go to the beach or eat good seafood.
Sofia	Then let's go to the beach on Monday and see the ship on Tuesday!
